"Do your thing and don't care if they like it." -Tina Fey

It's crazy how taking care of ourselves is thrown out the back door. Into the trash, never to be found again. Dramatic I know. But seriously! We'd rather spend our time making room for things that stress us out, than slipping into a nice hot bath for 5 minutes & letting our worries slip away. Come on!!! We deserve to pamper ourselves each & every day like the kings & queens that we are. Making self care an everyday habit is key to keeping us in good spirits & facing life like a boss.

I know the hardships. Busy schedules & having a social life can give us tunnel vision, and we don't see the value in caring for ourselves, or we totally forget. I'm here raising my hand, saying I CARE.

Those things are wonderful. But here is a little secret.

BREAKDOWNS HAPPEN

We are the foundation, and the house that sits on top of this foundation is filled with work, family, friends, responsibility, and relationships. Over time we forget to check & maintain the foundation. It starts to crack, sink & move, but we're distracted by what's going on in our insane life and we brush it off. We keep filling this once strong house with tons of weight. Then our worst nightmare happens: this foundation gives out & causes the house to come crumbling down.

We spend time caring for others. We give 'till we can't give anymore. We push it to the limit & we are left with nothing to give to ourselves. Our cups went from over flowing to bone dry. Then all the bad sneaks in. We don't feel ourselves, we break down mentally/physically. Our immune system is compromised, and we experience anxiety, stress, guilt. Illness can creep its way in which is a big NO NO!  We end up in bed all day watching Netflix (raise your hand if you've been there.) It's a circle that never ends unless we kick this bad habit to the curb.
KICK IT TO THE CURB!

SELF CARE = SELF LOVE

DO THINGS THAT SERVE YOU. IT WILL IN TURN SERVE OTHERS.

Make room for:

Start your day with an affirmation (I honor my true self)

Breakfast = Fuel (I love making avocado toast or a hemp seed smoothie)

Set boundaries with those around you (ex: NO, I can't pick up that extra shift)

Shut off all electronics an hour before bed

Say NO with confidence

Tongue Scraping every morning (Helps immune/digestive system)

Eat more veggies, fruits & whole foods (meal prep)

Dry brush 2 times a day (helps release toxins)

TEA TIME once a day (peppermint tea = immune system booster)

Taking probiotics (Healthy Gut Flora)

Connect with friends & build healthy relationships that fill our souls (kindred spirits)

Get your zen on! OM (meditate 5-10 minutes a day)

Lemon Water

Set realistic fitness goals that work for you & your body (secret: DO IT FOR YOU)

Organize with a planner to keep sane (takes stress off the mind, it's there if you forget)

Self-massage the feet (relieves pain in the body)

Power nap

Flax-seed facial (Yep, you heard me)

Take walks in nature (reduces tension & stress)

Get to bed early, and wake up with the sun

10 sun salutations in the morning

Essential oils instead of perfume (perfume = toxins)

Feeding the mind good things (Super Soul Sunday, guided meditation, motivational talks, prayer)

Laughter!!! LOL (decreases stress hormones)

Quality time by yourself (coffee & a book is a must)

Go make up free in public

Let go of standards & expectations

Forgive yourself

Therapy (not a bad thing)

Dance to your favorite song in your room (close the door & let it go)

Draw/paint (express your creative side)

Journal

Practice spirituality

Practice compassion

Do spontaneous things (like taking an aerial yoga class or traveling)

Make an appointment for a massage

Check in with your breath (learn breathing techniques)

BE PRESENT

Let go of:

Staying up late! late! late! checking Instagram, Facebook, emails, media etc..

Saying YES! YES! YES! YES! to everyone & anyone

Surrounding yourself with people who don't lift you up

Dieting or forgetting to eat (seriously not cool)

Too much drinking, or drinking at all (you booze you lose)

Following "Health" and "Fitness" websites

Eating so much sugar!

Working out for the "perfect bod" (oh please)

Gossiping (it makes us feel yucky)

Taking on too many rolls

Eating sh%*

NOT Drinking enough water

Being our own worst critic

Filling the body with toxins

Eating late at night

Negative self talk

Doubting your gifts

Comparing ourselves

Being "strong" not "weak"

Letting your dreams take a back seat

Holding your emotions in

Putting your passion aside

Living for others

Bad habits (nail biting is mine)

Promise yourself this & Conquer

Love it. Plan it. Repeat.

Make a pact to yourself to remove the old, & make room for new habits. Be your own health advocate & plan out these self care rituals. In order to be kick ass at whatever your heart desires, it starts with taking care of all layers of yourself. In order to stay with your promise, take it seriously! Respect yourself. Create a clear plan that will keep you accountable & feel good. Write it out, sticky note, set an alarm, plan ahead. Know what works for you. So maybe yoga isn't your jam. Try Zumba. Maybe flax seed facials are weird. Then make it your own. Love it! Do it! & KICK BUTT then strut on out like the AWESOME HUMAN BEING THAT YOU ARE.
